Inspired by Saad Alavi’s “Ab Mein Ghabrata Hoon”A few years ago, Pakistani musician Saad Alavi turned a simple political phrase into a quiet, biting confession of everyday anxiety. His track “Ab Mein Ghabrata Hoon” didn’t shout. It sighed. And that sigh travelled.This is my attempt to carry the same emotional weight into the Indian context — the paper promises, the freebie politics, the adulterated thali, the ignored flood warnings, and the endless cycle of taxes and jumlas.No anger. Just the familiar middle-class feeling that keeps returning:अब मैं घबराता हूँ।

वोट की खातिर हर बाज़ार में,

थाली में मिलावट का ज़हर है,
छापों में दिखता सच का कहर है,
क्या खाऊँ, सोच के झिझकता हूँ,

मौसम की चेतावनी को भुलाके,
सैलाब में शहरों को डुबाके,
फिर राहत का नाटक रचाता हूँ,
तबाही का मंज़र देखकर,

हर चीज़ पे टैक्स की कुल्हाड़ी है,
पर प्रेस मीट में सिर्फ़ लफ़्फ़ाज़ी है,
खाली जेब से जब बिल चुकाता हूँ,
‘सब ठीक है’ का जुमला सुनकर,
अब मैं घबराता हूँ, अब मैं घबराता हूँ...
