Republic Day Today in India

India Celebrates its 55th Republic day today. It is an holiday today for all over India to join the celebrations.  It was this day on 1950 that the constitution of India came into force and India became a truly sovereign state, a totally republican nation. The country finally realized the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the numerous freedom fighters who, fought for and sacrificed their lives for Independence of the nation. This auspicious day was decreed a national holiday and has been recognized and celebrated as the Republic Day of India, since then.

Perhaps more details on Republic day can be had from the following URL:

Harivarasanam

Harivarasanam, the most popular song that is associated with Lord Ayyappa, and which is a very holy custom that is observed in Sannidhanam, before it is closed every calendar day, on which it is opened.  For the benefit of Ayyappa devotees worldwide, hereby I would like to present the lyrics of Harivarasanam in GIF format, which I hope would be helpful to Ayyappa devotees worldwide.

Happy Pongal/Makara Sankaranthi

Wish you all a very happy Pongal or Makara Sankaranthi as it is called by different names in different sections of India.  There is a rich story behind Pongal or Makara Sankaranthi. Perhaps the article on HinduNet, which I came across recently would be a nice fitting one to explain the same:
